Twelve Words Kept Close
- Cheap passage
A Keeper of Names stood apart from the press at the ferry rope, lips moving without sound as she went through her twelve words one by one. She had carried them across three borders in her head and nothing else, and she meant to carry them across a fourth. Behind her, House Fishpond’s lamps burned on thin oil, and she did not turn to look at them.
